Boss Super Overdrive and Metal Zone With an Anniversary Facelift
The SD-1 and MT-2 distortion pedals from Boss are celebrating a milestone anniversary this year, which the company is commemorating with special editions of the Super Overdrive 40th Anniversary SD-1 4A and Metal Zone 30th Anniversary MT-2 3A. The pedals, whose first series were introduced to the market in 1981 (SD-1) and 1991 (MT-2), are offered in limited editions with modified designs that will be produced until the end of this year only.
Both the Super Overdrive 40th Anniversary SD-1 4A and Metal Zone 30th Anniversary MT-2 3A have a black lacquered chassis and, similarly to vintage pedals or the more luxurious Waza Craft series, an all-metal screw was used to secure the footplate under which the battery is hidden.
The MT-2 3A features light grey lettering, while for the SD-1 4A (with gold knob caps) a font was chosen in the yellow shade typical of the standard version of this drive, so the colors for the anniversary Super Overdrive were basically swapped.
A modification similar to that of the SD-1 4A can also be found on the Boss DS-1-4A 40th Anniversary distortion from 2017, and it must be said that both anniversary models are quite attractive thanks to the chosen facelift. The Boss Super Overdrive 40th Anniversary SD-1 4A is available for around €82, the high-gain Metal Zone 30th Anniversary MT-2 3A with active three-band corrections and semi-parametric mids costs around €133.
Compared to the conventional models, the buyer will pay an additional €20-€30, which is a relatively acceptable amount given the certain hallmark of exclusivity and the likelihood that these pedals will have a collector's value in the future. The effects are supplied in stylish commemorative boxes with the logos of the respective anniversaries printed on them.
