LTD MT-I OM: Signature Model by Slipknot Guitarist Mick Thomson

LTD's Signature Series guitar line has gained a new addition: a signature model by Mick Thomson, member of the iconic metal band Slipknot. The LTD MT-I model sports an unconventional Obsidian Metallic finish and features a body reminiscent of the popular MH series with an arched top. Based on Mick's specifications, this superstrat has several unique features that you won't find on any other LTD guitar model.

The model with a set-thru design features a three-piece maple neck to ensure maximum mechanical stability. The body is made of mahogany with a white ash top, which provides the sound with the necessary amount of higher frequencies, resulting in a clear, articulate tone that helps the instrument stand out in the band mix.

The subtle Thin-U profile and ergonomically shaped neck-to-body joint allow for comfortable, fast playing while ensuring seamless access to the highest positions on the fingerboard. The ebony macassar fretboard has a compound radius (300–400 mm) for comfortable chord playing as well as soloing with bending techniques. It features 24 medium jumbo stainless steel frets, blue luminescent side dots embedded in the edge of the fingerboard and a Graph Tech TUSQ XL nut (42 mm) that helps eliminate tuning instability.

Stable tuning is also ensured by the premium Hipshot Grip-Lock Open tuners with open gears, mounted in a reverse headstock, and resonance is enhanced by the high-quality High Mass (IBBY) hardtail bridge from the same manufacturer, specifically designed for string-through-body anchoring. All metal components, including the Gotoh strap locks, come in a black chrome finish.

The guitar has a standard 25.5-inch scale and, in terms of electronics, is equipped with only a bridge pickup – an active Fishman Fluence Mick Thomson Signature humbucker controlled by a volume potentiometer with push/pull function and a low-profile three-position switch. Thanks to the selected combination of switches, even a single pickup can produce a decent range of sounds: the toggle switch activates the voicing modes Voice 1, Voice 1 + Bass Shift (bass boost) and Voice 2, and in the latter position, the push/pull switch can activate Voice 3 mode.

The Superstrat LTD Mick Thomson MT-I in a luxurious Obsidian Metallic finish is fitted with D'Addario XL110-6 strings (.010/.013/.017/.026/.036/.046) and, of course, comes with a premium ESP MH Form Fit hard case, which costs around 240 euros when purchased separately. Thomson's signature model is available at Kytary.cz for around 1,900 euros.
