The Dead Daises Are Hard-Rocking Out with Zeal

Superband The Dead Daises has experienced yet another line-up shakeup. After the departure of Glenn Hughes, singer John Corabi rejoined the band. The result is a straightforward hard rock record that will please not only bearded bikers.

The Light 'Em Up album isn't pretentious at all. The ten tracks honour all the cheeky clichés of 80s glam rock, but at the same time, there's no doubt that The Dead Daises are a bunch of experienced rockers who know their craft very well. Moreover, the retro charm is broken up by the precise production, which is enhanced by the presence of another member of the team, Tommy Clufetos, former drummer for Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath.

Therefore, nothing else can be said that there is power in simplicity. The groove immediately kicks in with the title track "Light 'Em Up". The band keeps the pace in the vein of AC/DC, leader John Corabi's unrestrained performance doesn't waver in energy for a single minute; in short, he takes up exactly where he left off on Burn It Down, perfectly erasing Glenn Hughes' short-lived involvement on the previous record, Radiance.

The Dead Daises' solid rhythms and flashy solos continue throughout the whole album, such as in "Times Are Changing" or "I Wanna Be Your Bitch". In the groovy "I'm Goona Ride", again in the AC/DC style, the band revels in a bluesy intro, while in the cover version of "Take A Long Line" by Australian band The Angels, their rock'n'roll with a thumping bass line feels almost punk.

Few songs deviate from the predetermined rock scheme. Such is "Back To Zero", a dark song based on heavy riffs and a haunting chorus. Of course, the album can't be lacking a ballad. "Love That'll Never Be" is a pleasant slow song in which Corabi proves that he is not only an explosive rock roarer, but also a true heartbreaker.

What can you appreciate about the album as musicians?

Light 'Em Up is a record full of raw energy, great musicianship and dynamics that aims to draw everyone into the atmosphere of a live show. Dead Daises rely on straightforward strong melodies and engaging guitar interplay, while the songs retain a freshness and groove. Hard rock masters John Corabi (vocals), Doug Aldrich (guitar), David Lowy (guitar), Michael Devin (bass) and Tommy Clufetos (drums) are true to their style, which they authentically deliver with every bar. Their songs feel like riff anthems with a modern twist. The Dead Daises can either be loved or damned for their archaic nature. But they definitely earn their place when playing live.
