Gibson Issues Cease and Desist over Trump's Presidential Guitars
Some time ago, Donald Trump posted a photo of himself on the Truth Social networking site holding a limited edition of '45 guitar, the American Eagle model, with an American flag and eagle on the body and Trump's slogan "Make America Great Again" in the form of a mother-of-pearl fingerboard inlay. The number 45 on the headstock denotes that Trump was the 45th president of the USA.
However, 16 Creative, the company behind the launch of the collection, which bills itself as a "veteran-owned branding agency", ran into trouble when Gibson objected to the sale of its Les Paul-shaped electric guitar series, claiming that the edition infringed its trademark.
Presented as "the only guitar officially endorsed by President Donald J. Trump," the 16 Creative brand adds the model to a long list of products branded with Trump's name, including NFT trading cards, luxury watches, vodka, steaks, etc., many of which have been linked to a 489 million dollar civil fraud verdict against the President.
In addition to the American Eagle collection, the GetTrumpGuitars website offers acoustic and electric guitars for 1,250 and 1,500 dollars as well as Presidential and God Bless The USA models and Signature Edition collector's investment versions with Trump's signature and a price over 10,000 dollars.
