D'Angelico Deluxe Bobby Weir 3 Premium Semi-Hollows

D'Angelico has launched the third generation of signature guitars from the Grateful Dead and Dead & Company guitarist. The Deluxe Bobby Weir 3 model is offered in "standard" and limited versions, with the latter to be available in just ten collectible, hand-signed pieces with certification and other extras. Both variants feature identical construction and electronics and are available in timeless Matte Stone and Satin Trans Wine finishes.

Combining the chosen materials and sleek body shape with two custom TV Jones DA-Trons humbuckers and a wiring configuration that provides access to matching the inner and outer coils via push-pull tone potentiometers, allows players to conjure Weir's notorious tones while developing their original sound.

The ebony fretboard, fitted with 22 high-quality Jescar 47/104 frets and genuine mother-of-pearl inlays, is complemented by a neck glued from three layers of maple and walnut with a subtler C-profile and a small heel for more comfortable access to the higher positions, also supported by a cut-out lower corner of the semi-hollow laminated maple body, reinforced by a central solid block of the same wood.

The hardware in golden chrome consists of the company's vintage Shield tremolo, a solid tune-o-matic bridge with scroll saddles and lockable Grover 509 Super Rotomatic tuning machines with the brand's signature rondel shape, the neck brace adjusting screw shaft covered by a metal plate in the typical Skyscraper design.

D'Angelico's Bobby Weir 3, tested for years on stages with Dead and Company, is designed to offer the perfect balance of airy warmth and Weir's long-sought "clang of cold steel," according to the manufacturer. The official price of the production version, including the hard case, is around 2,200 dollars, with the special edition going for around 5,000 dollars.

"I've been on an endless quest to find a tone that makes me really sit up and beg," Weir says of his latest D'Angelico. "I don’t remember where it was, but I was on stage at a soundcheck. I plugged it in, cranked it up, and said ‘This is it – this is what I’m looking for.’ I knew it."
