Every Detail Matters: How Guitar Necks from PRS Core Series Are Made

The neck is one of the most important components of a guitar. That is even more true when it comes to a long tenon neck joint or neck-through guitars. The neck, together with the fingerboard, not only influences the final sound, its sustain, consistency, colour, tuning stability and accuracy, but its profile, width, radius and fret type have a significant impact on the playing feel, which for most guitarists is one of the compelling reasons to get another toy. Of course, manufacturers are well aware of this.

Even the renowned Paul Reed Smith company focuses on flawless neck design, and the video below documents the process, where every detail matters. Ryan Whaley, 2nd shift woodshop supervisor at the PRS factory in Maryland, guides you through the various stages of the neck making for the deluxe Core Edition guitars.
