Fender Celebrates the 70th Anniversary of the Stratocaster, the Most Popular Electric Guitar of All Time

With a video titled Voodoo Child (Slight Return): Forever Ahead of Its Time, Fender kicked off its 70th anniversary celebration of the Stratocaster on Tuesday. The clip brings together a dozen guitarists – Nile Rodgers, Ari O'Neal, Tom Morello, Mateus Asato, Tyler Bryant, Rebecca Lovell, Simon Neil, REI, Tash Sultana and Jimmie Vaughan – to pay tribute to the iconic riff in Jimi Hendrix's song, while indirectly acknowledging the Stratocaster's enduring significance in the music industry and pop culture.

According to company officials, other video series are to follow, including Strat Sessions, highlighting the unique combination of musicians and the ageless Stratocaster, and Icons of the Strat, paying tribute to legendary players. The California-based brand also invites musicians to share their stories between April 22 and June 22 with a chance to win exclusive 70th Anniversary Edition Stratocaster guitars. As part of the anniversary, Fender is launching limited edition Stratocasters, including luxury models from the Custom Shop.
