Jason Newsted, Former Metallica Bassist, Sells His Gear
More than sixty items are to be offered by Jason Newsted, who will be selling his arsenal from Wednesday 24th July via the well-known musician's website Reverb. The multiple Grammy Award winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member will part with various instruments from his personal collection, charting his musical career from his time in Flotsam and Jetsam, Echobrain, Voivod, Ozzy Osbourne's backing band and of course, Metallica, which he recorded four studio albums with in the eighties and nineties. ..And Justice for All (1988), Metallica (1991), Load (1996) and Reload (1997).
Although Newsted is best known as an accomplished metal bassist, his collection includes some highly valued vintage instruments. Musicians, fans, and collectors can acquire, for example, a unique 1992 Alembic Europa 10-string bass, a PRS model in Cherry Sunburst lacquer that Newsted toured with on ...And Justice for All, an original Ampeg AUB-1 Scroll Bass, a 1956 Fender Precision, an Alembic 20th Anniversary, a 1963 Gibson EB-1 and a custom three-string Music Man inspired by Tony Levin's basses.
Guitarists might appreciate a selection of Gibsons, including a 1960 Barney Kessel Custom, ES-125 TCD 1963 and '66 Firebird, a 1965 Danelectro Double Neck and a Gretsch Chet Atkins Tennessean. The collection also includes a 1937 Dobro National, a rare Mosrite five-string electric mandolin, a 1980 Rickenbacker 4080, special guitars with Newsted hand-painted finishes, and other models.
