The Music Man Custom Design Experience: a Customised StingRay Dream
Last week, Ernie Ball Music Man launched its new Custom Design Experience program, allowing players to customise every detail of their StingRay Special bass. The online configurator, powered by a 3D rendering platform, allows users to choose from four and five-string, right or left-handed versions, and to select the profile and material of the neck and fretted or fretless fingerboard, including the shape of the position markers.
There is also the option of installing one or two company humbuckers with silver, gold or black pole pieces and last but not least, finishes including thirty different transparent and classic lacquers, along with a choice of hardware surface, pickguard colour, pickup covers, etc. The factory in San Luis Obispo, California, will even tune the instrument to different tunings (standard, Eb, D or drop-D/A) on request, and the bass can be delivered in a G&G hard case or a quality Mono gig bag. The waiting time for a StingRaye Special from the Custom Shop is between 4 and 6 months.
