Tanglewood TW2 T Travel Acoustic Guitar From the Winterleaf Collection
Compact travel instruments are in great demand, as proven, among others, by the ever-expanding range of their manufacturers, including London-based Tanglewood Guitars. Their models are among the best-selling instruments in this category in the world. The company, founded in 1988, has recently introduced another addition to the Winterleaf family of acoustic guitars, the TW2 T, which scores an excellent price/performance ratio.
The company, which launched its first compact acoustic as the Sundance edition already 26 years ago, uses genuine African mahogany in the form of relatively thick laminated sheets for the Winterleaf All Mahogany line so that the instruments can withstand a wide range of climatic changes and harsh travel conditions without damage. The mechanical durability of the body is also enhanced by more massive internal bracing, contributing to tuning stability and consistent tone delivery.
The all-mahogany version of the TW2 T features a shortened 571 mm scale, while the Techwood resonant composite fretboard with the visual and sonic qualities of ebony is fitted with 19 medium-thick frets and a 43 mm wide NuBone nut. The neck glued from two pieces of mahogany with a comfortable D-profile (thickness on the 1st fret 20.5 mm, on the 12th fret 22.5 mm) is attached to the body via a dovetail joint on the 14th fret.
The total length of the guitar is 890 mm, the widest point of the body being 324 mm; the body depth varies from 76 to 86 mm, and the body is 392 mm long. The upper soundboard is decorated with a tasteful herringbone rosette, while the bridge base of the hardy pau ferro wood carries plastic (ABS) bridge pins and the NuBone compensated saddle. The all-metal enclosed tuning pegs have a chrome finish, just like the strap buttons.
The Tanglewood TW2 T with a warm tone and dominant supporting mids is offered in a transparent Natural Satin matte lacquer finish that lets the mahogany wood texture stand out. The instrument, equipped with Elixir Nanoweb 12-53 strings in the Asian factory, is available at around 240 EUR, including a soft padded case.
