Texas Man Bought a Taylor Swift Acoustic at Auction and Destroyed it

At the Ellis County Wild Game Dinner charity auction, held in Waxahachie, Texas, an acoustic guitar signed by Taylor Swift and designed in the style of her current Eras Tour concert tour was auctioned off, among other items. While the instrument's price, including fees, eventually reached 4,000 dollars, the guitar's lifespan was short, as the "lucky" new owner smashed it with a hammer right before the auction stage.

The acoustic came with a rack, which one of the bidders commented immediately after the destruction with the laconic phrase, "I don't think we need a guitar rack now." The whole event had political overtones – the new guitar owner responded with a hammer to the fact that Taylor Swift had endorsed Democratic candidate Kamala Harris before the US presidential election.

"It has been surprising to me how big of a deal people are making it out to be. It wasn’t meant to be mean or malicious," Ellis County Wild Game spokesman Craig Meier told WFAA. "He was just making a lighthearted statement showing disapproval of people in the entertainment industry trying to influence politics.“

Eventually, there was a good end: the guitar with the destroyed soundboard was donated back to the nonprofit organization by the new owner immediately after the auction to sell on eBay and donate the proceeds to local children who need the funds to participate in agricultural education programs. Thanks to a viral video of the aforementioned auction, the item was in great demand and the final price went up to 6,550 dollars.
