Three Ibanez "Metal" Acoustics from the Black Out Edition
With the Ibanez Black Out product series, Ibanez is not only aiming at players of the harder genres, who like to do an acoustic song from time to time, but also at all guitarists whose favourite colour is black – the shade clearly dominating the electroacoustic models from this edition. The latter is represented by the six-string versions AEWC621 BOT and TCY621 BOT, complemented by the seven-string variant AEG721 BOT, differing in addition to the number of strings mainly by the shape of the bodies with cutaway and the material of the neck and fretboard.
The common denominator of the AEWC621 and AEG721 versions is the back and sides of the body made of laminated sapele wood with mahogany characteristics, giving the tone a warm midrange and clear bass, balanced frequency response is ensured by the front soundboard made of proven spruce, and comfortable playing, including mechanical stability, is provided by the neck glued from three pieces of nyatoh and maple, equipped with a Comfort Grip profile.
The strings are anchored in a Macassar ebony bridge equipped with innovative Ibanez Advantage pins. The same material was used in the described models to build a fretboard with a radius of 400 mm. The fretboard is fitted with twenty medium-thick frets, Black-Dyed Bone walnut (width AEWC621 – 43 mm, AEG721 – 50.2 mm), and only side position markers, which adds a layer of stylish elegance to the guitars' designs.
Both variants feature electronics consisting of a high-quality Fishman S-Core pickup connected to an Ibanez AEQ-SP2 active preamp with volume, bass, and treble potentiometers and a chromatic tuner. The preamp module is embedded in the top of the cabinet, along with a 9V battery cavity. Both jack and balanced XLR outputs can be used.
The TCY621, with a double-cutaway body based on the shape of the Talman series of electric guitars, features an okoume neck with a TCY profile, a fretboard (rounded radius of 250 mm) and a bridge (11 mm string spacing) made of durable purpleheart and a plastic fretboard with a narrower 42 mm fret size, which could suit players whose main instrument is an electric guitar. The Fishman pickup has been replaced by an Ibanez piezo sensor located under the bridge saddle, and only a jack output leads from the Ibanez AEQ-SP2 preamp. All electroacoustics in the series have, of course, been given all-metal sealed machines in a black finish.
